Hospital
A hospital corridor. She is on the phone with her younger brother, who is in another city.
हाँ भाई, सुन… नहीं नहीं, ठीक हैं. Doctor ने बोला stable हैं.
(bright, fast — performing calm)
अरे नहीं, तू मत आ. Ticket इतना महँगा है अभी, और वैसे भी अगले हफ़्ते तो तेरा exam है ना? पापा ख़ुद बोल रहे थे — "इसको मत बताना, exam ख़राब हो जाएगा."
देख मैं यहाँ हूँ ना. मैं sab handle कर लूँगी. हमेशा किया है.
(beat — the first crack)
नहीं, मैंने खाना खाया. खाया है. Canteen से… हाँ खाया.
(pause)
भाई…
(the performance drops. Completely.)
भाई, मुझे नहीं पता मैं क्या कर रही हूँ.
Doctor ने कुछ बोला था सुबह, और मैंने सुना, और मैंने सिर हिला दिया — और मुझे एक शब्द समझ नहीं आया. एक शब्द नहीं. और मैंने किसी से पूछा भी नहीं क्योंकि… क्योंकि सब मुझे देख रहे थे और सबको लग रहा था कि मुझे पता है.
(quiet)
सब मुझे बड़ी बहन समझते हैं. कोई नहीं पूछता कि मेरी बड़ी बहन कौन है.
(long beat — then she pulls it back together, visibly, deliberately)
नहीं… नहीं, सुन. मैं ठीक हूँ. सच.
तू exam दे. अच्छे से देना. और phone उठाता रहना, बस.
(smiles at nothing)

How to play it
This is the transition piece — one hard turn, tested in a single take.
Three distinct states: performed brightness, collapse, and then a VISIBLE reassembly.
The reassembly matters as much as the collapse. Most actors nail the break and then coast to the
end. Don't. Show the effort of putting the mask back on — that is the harder skill and the one a
casting director is actually measuring.
"कोई नहीं पूछता कि मेरी बड़ी बहन कौन है" should be almost thrown away. Do not land on it.
