To message performers on Castkro you need a verified phone number and a published casting call. On the free casting director plan you can start 3 conversations in total, for the life of the account. Paid casting director plans have no limit, and messaging never uses credits.
Where to send a message
- On a performer's profile, tap Message.
- In the Application Manager, open Shortlisted and tap Message on a card.
- To read and reply, tap the Messages icon at the top of any page.
If a rule is stopping you, the profile says so under the buttons before you tap, for example Publish a casting call before you can message talent.
Rule 1: Your phone number must be verified
- Indian (+91) numbers always need a one-time code. Until you enter it, messaging is blocked.
- Numbers from other countries count as verified once they are on your account, unless Castkro asks for a code for your country.
If this rule stops you, the Message button is greyed out, with Verify your phone number beside it to take you to your account page.
Rule 2: You need a published casting call
At least one of your casting calls has to be published. A call whose Listing expiry date has passed still counts. A draft, a call Under review, a call marked Needs changes and an Unpublished call do not.
If this rule stops you, the Message button is greyed out, with Publish a casting call beside it.
Messaging and unlocking have different call rules
Messaging accepts a published call even after it has closed. Unlocking a phone number or email needs a call that is published and still open. See How Contact Unlock Works.
Rule 3: Free plans can start 3 conversations
| Your plan | New conversations you can start |
|---|---|
| Free casting director plan | 3 in total, for the life of the account |
| Any paid casting director plan | No limit |
How the count works:
- A conversation is counted when you send your first message in it.
- Once counted, you can keep writing in that conversation for free, as long as you like.
- The count never resets. It does not refill each month, and archiving a conversation does not give it back.
If a performer messages you first, the conversation is counted when you send your first reply.
When you have 2 or fewer left, the profile shows how many, such as 1 new conversation left on your current plan. When none are left, you see Upgrade to keep messaging with a See plans button, and the message You have used 3 of 3 direct conversations (lifetime) on your current plan.
The rules apply to every message you send
Rules 1 and 2 are checked each time you send, not only when you start. If your only published call is unpublished, you cannot reply in existing conversations either until a call is published again.
Performers under 18
A performer under 18 is managed by a parent or guardian, who reads and answers messages for them. A performer marked Contact blocked in search has no confirmed guardian yet, and you cannot message them at all.
When you can't contact someone
If you or a performer has blocked the other, neither of you can start a conversation or send a message, and You can't contact this person shows in place of the Message button. A conversation you already had stays readable, but no one can send anything new in it. A paid plan does not change this.
FAQ
Does messaging cost credits?
No. Credits are only spent when you unlock a performer's phone number or email. Messages cost nothing, apart from the conversation limit on the free plan.
If I archive a conversation, do I get it back?
No. The free plan's 3 conversations are counted for the life of the account, and archiving a conversation does not return it.
Can performers reply to me?
Yes. Any performer can reply to a message you send. On their side, starting a new conversation with a casting director needs a paid performer plan.
My only casting call closed. Can I still message?
Yes. A published call counts for messaging even after its Listing expiry date has passed. You do need an open call to unlock contact details.
Can I send files?
Yes, images and documents such as PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, up to 20 MB each. Video files cannot be sent in a message.
I verified my number but still cannot message
Check the other rule too: you need at least one published casting call. A call still Under review does not count yet. Once it is approved and published, messaging opens up.
