Why Your Casting Call Is Under Review (and How to Fix It)
Every new casting call is checked before it goes live, usually in under a minute. If yours is not live, it is missing something, held for a person to check, or declined with a note saying what to change.

Every new casting call is checked before it goes live, and that usually takes under a minute. If yours is still not live, it is missing something, it is being held for a person to look at, or it was declined with a note saying what to change. The badge on the call tells you which.
Step 1: Find the call and read its badge
Tap My Casting Calls in the menu. Each call carries a badge, and the tabs along the top filter by the same names.
| Badge | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Draft | It was never submitted, or publishing was refused because something is missing | See Something is missing below |
| Under review | It is being checked. Nobody else can see it yet. | See Under review below |
| Needs changes | The review declined it. It is not live. | See Needs changes below |
| Unpublished | You took it down yourself | Edit it and publish again. It goes back through review. |
| Open | It is live and taking applications | Nothing to fix |
| Closed | It is live, but its Listing expiry date has passed | Edit the call and set a later expiry date |
Your dashboard also has a Needs attention section listing every call that is under review or declined, with a button to fix it.
Something is missing
Open the call with Edit casting call and go to the last step, Review & publish. If anything is missing you will see A few things before you can publish: followed by a list. Tap an item to jump to the step where you fix it.
The list checks for:
- A casting call title of at least 15 characters
- A production type and a city
- A project description of at least 30 characters
- At least one role
- A listing expiry date
- What the role pays, and a reason if it is unpaid
A role left as a draft does not count
The list above only checks that a role exists. Publishing also needs at least one role that was saved with Save role. If you opened the role form and tapped Cancel, that role is still a draft, and the call will not publish. Go to the Roles step, open the card, tap Edit, and tap Save role.
If you see One step from going live with a Subscribe to publish button instead, your plan limits how many casting calls can be live or in review at the same time. The message says which. You can unpublish or withdraw another call to free the slot, or subscribe.
Under review

Under review with We're checking this casting call means the check is still running. Most calls clear in under a minute. You get an in-app notification and an email titled Your casting call is live when it does.
Under review with We've flagged one thing to check means the review found something that needs a person to look at it, and the note underneath says what. You have two choices:
- Wait. Someone from the team will review it.
- Tap Edit casting call, change the part the note mentions, then tap Resubmit for review on Review & publish. The check runs again straight away, which is usually faster than waiting.
To pull the call back instead, tap Withdraw from review, then Tap again to confirm. The call goes back to draft and stops using one of your live casting call slots.
Needs changes
Needs changes means the call was declined, and This wasn't approved, so it isn't live is followed by a note explaining why. You also get an email titled Your casting call needs changes with the same note.
- Tap Fix and resubmit on the call.
- Change what the note describes. It could be the project description, a role, or the pay.
- Go to Review & publish and tap Resubmit for review.
If you think the decision is wrong, tap Request human review instead. A person on the team will look at it, and the call moves back to Under review. You can do this once for each decision.
Resubmitting without changes is refused
If you tap Resubmit for review without changing anything, Castkro tells you the call has not changed and would reach the same decision. Edit the part the note mentions, or use Request human review.
What the review checks
The review reads the project description, the roles and the pay against the casting call rules in the Terms of Service. Poor spelling, short descriptions and informal wording are not problems.
These get a call declined straight away:
- Asking performers to pay anything to apply, audition or be considered, including a registration fee, a portfolio charge, a workshop cost or a refundable deposit
- Auditions or shoots in a hotel room, a private home or another non-professional place
- Personal favours, or any romantic or sexual expectation, in exchange for a part
- Sexually explicit content
- Casting anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian involved, or in conditions that are unlawful for them
- Discriminatory or demeaning language that has nothing to do with the part
- Anything unlawful
These get a call held for a person to look at:
- Pay that contradicts itself, such as Compensation set to paid while the description says there is no budget
- Promises of fame, guaranteed work or guaranteed income
- Contact details written to get around automatic removal, such as a number spelled out in words, or asking people to message you on another app
- Claiming to be a production house or person you are not
- Something that reads as an advert or a recruitment funnel rather than a casting call
Stating who a part needs is fine
A part written for a specific age range, gender, language, look or physical skill is ordinary casting. The review is told not to treat that as discrimination.
Editing a call that is already live
Changing a live call sends the new version through the same check. The call stays live while it is checked. If the new version is declined, the call comes off the site and shows Needs changes until you fix it.
FAQ
How long does review take?
The automatic check usually takes under a minute. A call held for a person, or one where you tapped Request human review, takes longer, and you are notified when a decision is made.
Why did my phone number disappear from my casting call?
Contact details are removed automatically from the call's title and project description, and from each role's character name and About this role, whether or not the call is reviewed. That is not a reason for a decline. Trying to get around it, for example by spelling the number out, does get a call held for a person.
Can I ask for a human review more than once?
Once for each decision. If a person reviews it and it is still declined, edit the call to address the note and resubmit it.
My call says Closed. Was it removed?
No. Closed means its Listing expiry date has passed, so it has stopped taking applications. Edit the call and choose a later Listing expiry date if you are still casting.
I tapped Publish and nothing seems to have happened
Check My Casting Calls. A call that was submitted shows Under review, not Open, until the check finishes. If it still shows Draft, open it and look for the missing items on Review & publish.
