Asking for a Self-Tape With Your Role

There is no separate self-tape setting on a role in the casting call form today. To ask for a tape, describe it in the role's About this role, then watch the videos and performances on each applicant's profile, and message the people on your shortlist for anything more specific.

What performers can send you today

When a performer applies, they choose a role and can add a short note in Describe why you're the best fit, up to 500 characters. They cannot attach a video to the application itself.

What you can watch comes from their profile:

• Videos they have added to their portfolio. Each can be up to 45 seconds. A performer on the free plan can keep one video, and paid plans have no limit.
• Performances, if they use Castkro Perform. These are recordings of Castkro scripts, shown in a Performances section on their profile. See Using Castkro Perform to Find Talent.

Step 1: Describe the tape in About this role

On the Roles step, open the role and add a short, specific request at the end of About this role. That field holds up to 1000 characters, so keep the tape request to two or three sentences.

Please make sure your profile has a recent video of you performing a short emotional scene in Hindi, under 45 seconds, framed from the chest up. A plain wall behind you is fine.

Say what the scene is, what language, how long, and how it should be framed. Ask for one tape, not three. A performer on the free plan can only keep one video on their profile, so a single clear request gets you more usable tapes.

Step 2: Watch what applicants have added

Open Applications. On a card, tap Quick view. Under Videos it tells you how many are on the full profile, and View full profile opens them. Performers who have published recordings on Castkro Perform also have a Performances section there.

Step 3: Ask your shortlist for more

For the people you want to take further, tap Message on their card under Shortlisted and send the exact scene, with a date you need it by.

Messages carry text, images and documents, but not video files. Ask the performer to add the tape to their profile videos and reply once it is up. Messaging has its own rules for casting directors. See Messaging Talent: Rules and Limits.

Is there a setting to request a self-tape on a role?

Not in the casting call form today. Describe the tape in About this role and follow the steps above.

Can I make a tape required to apply?

Not a specific tape. What you can do is choose an applicant standard that requires at least one video on the profile, so nobody without a video can apply. See Setting Required and Preferred Applicant Standards. For the particular scene you want, say so in About this role and use Not a fit for applicants who do not provide it.

Can a performer send me a video in a message?

Not as a file. Messages accept images and documents only. Ask them to add the video to their profile instead.

Can I ask for a sample of the script from the film?

You can describe a scene, but think twice before sharing unreleased dialogue in a public listing. Every casting call is visible to anyone on the site. Share a sides document with shortlisted performers in a message instead, since messages accept documents.

Can I ask performers to pay to have a tape made?

No. Asking performers to pay for anything to be considered, including a tape, a studio or a workshop, gets a casting call declined. Castkro never asks performers for money to audition.
