How to Use Castkro Perform to Get Noticed

On Castkro Perform you pick a script, record yourself performing it, and upload the take. A public performance appears on your profile, so a casting director can watch you act instead of reading a list of credits. Contests add an audience, votes and Star Score points.

Perform is not a way to apply for a role. To be considered for a part, apply to a casting call.

Before you start

• A performer profile. Casting director accounts can watch performances but cannot record them.
• A phone or camera. A take is 5 to 120 seconds long, as an MP4 or MOV file. The recording page shows the size limit, which is normally 100 MB, and a contest can set a shorter length.
• A quiet, well-lit space. Face a window, keep the camera at eye level, and record in landscape or portrait, whichever suits the scene.

Record a performance of a script

1. Open Castkro Perform and tap Scripts.
2. Pick a script, for example a short Hindi monologue, and read it through.
3. Tap Perform this script. The recording page opens with Your script on it.
4. Under Your performance, tap Choose your take. On a phone you can record straight from the camera, or pick a video you have already shot.
5. Watch the preview. If it is not the one, tap Choose a different take.
6. Under Who can see this, choose who can watch it (see the table below).
7. In Note (optional), add anything a casting director should know, for example Second take, performed in Hindi with a Lucknow accent.
8. Tap Save performance.

Your take uploads, and you land on Your performances. We check its length and format after the upload, and the result shows there.

If your take is shorter or longer than the script usually runs, the page says so, for example That take runs 1:40, which is longer than this script usually takes (0:45). You can still submit it. Only a take outside the 5 to 120 second range, or over the size limit, is refused.

Who can see a performance

A new performance starts as Private unless you are entering a contest. You can change it later on Your performances: pick Public, Unlisted or Private next to the performance and tap Save.

Enter a contest

Contests are run by Castkro. Each one has a script or a prompt, a closing date and its own rules.

1. Open Castkro Perform and tap a contest.
2. Read the rules and the length it allows.
3. Tap Enter this contest. The recording page shows Entries close with the date.
4. Choose your take and add a note, as above. A contest entry starts as Public.
5. Tap Enter contest.

When the contest closes, entries are ranked by votes. Only public entries that have not been taken down take part. Winners earn trophies and Star Score points, and every other public entry earns points for taking part. See how the Star Score and trophies work.

How voting works

• Anyone signed in to Castkro can vote, once per performance.
• You cannot vote for your own performance.
• Private practice performances are not voted on.
• Votes stop when the contest's voting closes.

Manage your performances

Open Your performances to see everything you have recorded, public or not. Each one shows whether it is On your profile or Only you can see this.

• Change who can see it with the menu and Save.
• Take it down with Withdraw this performance. Tap it, then tap Tap again to withdraw to confirm.

A performance that breaks the rules can be removed by our team, and then shows Removed by moderation.

FAQ

Can a casting director see my performances?

Yes, if they are Public and your profile is public. They appear on your profile. If you make your profile private, your performances leave Perform's public lists too.

My take was refused. Why?

It is shorter than 5 seconds, longer than 120 seconds (or the contest's limit), larger than the size limit shown on the page, or not an MP4 or MOV video. The message under your take says which.

Can I record something that is not a script from Castkro?

Often, yes. Open the recording options. If you see Something else, choose Perform your own material and tap Record.

Does a performance count towards my portfolio video limit?

No. Performances are separate from the videos in your portfolio and have their own limits.

Somebody reported my performance. Will it be taken down?

Not automatically. Reports send it for a person on our team to look at, and it stays up while they do. It only comes down if they decide it breaks the rules.
